Less waiting, more choices for residents at Grenfell Pioneer Home

Residents living at Grenfell Pioneer Home are getting their breakfast sooner and have more choices about what they can eat, thanks to recent process improvements at the long-term care facility in Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region .

Because staff now prep the night before, morning cooks spend 34% less time (13 min.) setting up the dining room for breakfast. And by standardizing the placement of care items in all resident rooms, continuing care assistants now walk 56% less when performing residents’ morning care.

As a result of these changes, residents are being helped to the dining room an average of 12 minutes earlier than in the past, and now have the choice of either hot or cold continental breakfast items if they prefer to eat after 9 a.m.

“Having the pace slowed and allowing our residents the option to be taken to the dining room when they want allows us time to do the little extras, like help a resident put on her jewelry.” (Melisa Berglind, CCA)
